Algorithms aren’t just “neutral” machines; they work with what we give them. Right now, global standards like DDEX have huge gaps: they don’t track gender or where an artist actually comes from, usually just where the label is based. This means artists from places like Southeast Europe or female creators often get “erased” by the system because the data doesn’t exist to find them.

During the session these structural absences will be discussed and the actual steps for implementation will be devised.

A curated session bringing 3-4 Berlin-based music tech startups face to face with industry mentors, investors and conference delegates. Each founder gets a focused window to present their product, receive live feedback from a small expert panel and open the floor to audience questions. This is not a competition. There is no winner. The goal is visibility, connection and honest conversation about what it takes to build in music tech right now. Startups are selected by the MW:M programming team in consultation with Amplitude Ventures, with priority given to founders building products that intersect with the conference’s programme verticals.
