Biography

Melissa Perales moved from Chicago to Berlin in the 90s. Since then she has organised an international film festival, owned her own restaurant and began booking and promoting live shows and film screenings under the moniker M:Soundtrack. As a concert promoter and festival organizer she presents international up-and-coming artists and supports the local scene as a collective member of the Schokoladen music venue in Mitte since 1998.

This continuing series has become a platform and meeting point within the Berlin independent music scene for 20 years. Melissa is a board member of all2gethernow e.V., an association based in Berlin, that organises projects in the field of music and culture, they have created several events over the years with an emphasis on artists. A main project of a2n is: Music Pool Berlin, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, which offers: consultation, coaching, peer-to-peer knowledge transfer, workshops, and community events for artists that want to professionalise their careers in the music Industry.

Melissa’s passion is soundtracks, and studied film in Chicago, therefore starting Supertape-Berlin was the likely result: a music supervision and consulting company which she runs together with the filmmaker and producer, Sabine Steyer.

In the last eight years Melissa has been an advocate for equality and diversity in the music scene. Her advocate work has been featured, and is “in-practice”, within all of her self-organised events over the years, like the co-curated Torstrassen festival, We Make Waves, Night School Berlin, and since 2021, as the curator for the Durchlüften festival. She also appears on panels at music conferences and sees her mission to pass the flame to future female identifying, trans and non binary music all-rounders. Melissa is also the proud mother of two sons.
