Biography

Zhian Zhao is Director of the Music Industry Development Research Center and Professor, Vice Dean and PhD supervisor of the School of Music and Recording Arts at Communication University of China. He is also the Vice Chair of the College Music Alliance of the Chinese Musicians Association.

His research mainly focuses on communication in the music industry, media and music, and Chinese traditional music. He has led and completed five national and provincial-level projects, including “Introduction to Music Communication Studies,” “Research on the Current Situation and Policies for the Development of the Chinese Music Industry,” and “Research on Evaluation Index System for National Music Industry Base Parks.” He has published eight monographs and over 30 academic papers. He has organized and hosted nine annual China Music Industry High-End Forums and published the annual China Music Industry Development Report since 2015. The research team he leads has become an important think tank for the development of the Chinese music industry.
