Our confirmed speakers
Hannes Tschürtz is the founder of Ink Music in Vienna, a successful label and publishing house for 20+ years, which has paved the way for many international artist careers in that time. On the way, Hannes helped create different educational and training programmes for aspiring music professionals at home and abroad.
He holds seats on the board of Austrias IFPI chapter and the Advisory Board of the Austrian Music Fund; and also leads Communications for Europe in Synch. He always aims to take a look at the bigger picture of things and writes creative culture-related articles for magazines and papers. He’s also co-owner of ticketing start-up NTRY Ticketing and loves dogs.
Morena Piro studied Romance Studies, Italian Studies and Education in Hanover and Applied Languages at the Université Sorbonne Paris IV. From 2002 to 2006, she worked as a project manager at the MusikZentrum Hannover, where she initiated the award-winning ‘Music in Hainholz’ project.
Since 2011, she has been coordinator at the Centre for World Music at the University of Hildesheim Foundation, where she is responsible for the Master’s degree programme ‘musik.welt – Kulturelle Diversität in der musikalischen Bildung’.
In 2016, she founded the Community Service department as well as the ‘Studying after flight’ area and headed the INTEGRA team of the German Academic Exchange Service. She has been a network communicator for the ‘Fête de la Musique Deutschland’ since 2023. She is also a member of the international ‘Community Music Network’ and the German Music Council’s federal expert committee ‘Cultural Diversity’.
After completing her degree in English and German studies, Birte Wiemann joined the independent music distributor Cargo Records in Wuppertal in 2005. In the 19 years that she has been with Cargo Records, Birte has been a product and label manager for labels such as Rise Records, Trustkill and Revelation, was involved in establishing Record Store Day in Germany in 2009 – and is currently a project manager for B2B solutions and D2C fulfillment services. In 2013, she completed her doctorate in English literature at the University of Hull in the North of England. Birte was elected to the board of the VUT (The Association of Independent Music Entrepreneurs) e.V. which represents the interests of 1,100 labels, distributors, publishers and artists.
In 2021 Birte was appointed chairwoman of the VUT Board and was confirmed in this position in 2023. The VUT is currently working proactively for a fair and contemporary remuneration in streaming and is shedding light on the impact of generative AI on the independent music industry. Since 2021 Birte has been a member of the supervisory board of Initiative Musik. Birte is a fan of coloured vinyl and owns much more than just a single version of many of her favourite records.
